What happened on the project?
On the project I researched local stories and amalgamated them to create my storywalk.
What was produced?
The final outcome was a 1 hour long storywalk around Wem suitable for anybody aged over 8.
What did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed the telling of ‘The Stolen Potato’ the most as it felt as if I have improved in my storytelling so much and I got in some effective audience interaction.
What did you find the most difficult / complicated?
I found the time limit the most difficult as I had 3 days to learn and hone and polish the storywalk which created a lot of pressure to do well.
What was the feedback from others?
Overall the feedback from others was very good as they enjoyed it and the only improvements were more audience members.
What do you think of the feedback?
I am very pleased with the feedback as everyone enjoyed the story walk and I am glad the improvements are minor issues like audience size and more stories as it means the audience I had enjoyed and appreciated it.
What have you learnt about leadership?
I have learnt that in leadership you need to be clear with your aims and goals and be clear and concise to those who are assisting you (e.g. Stewards). Also as a leader you should set realistic targets and not put too much pressure on yourself as it can cause your leadership skills to diminish. Also it is important in leadership to plan in detail at the start to help save time in the long run as prior planning and preparation prevents a poor performance.
What have you learnt about communication?
I have learnt that when communicating with those around you and helping you it is vital to be to the point and explain exactly what you need them to do but it is also important to listen as well as talk as communication is a two way process.
What have you learnt about planning?
I have learnt that planning is vital to a successful outcome. Prior detailed planning will mean that you don’t need to keep altering your plan through your task which will not only save you time but also save you aggravation.
What have you learnt about your art form?
I have learnt a lot about my art form and how many different forms of storytelling performances there are from single stories to story walks. I have improved in my own ability in my art form and have drawn inspiration from other artists around me.
What would you do differently next time?
I would have planned the event to be on a different day to allow more audience members to come, maybe Sunday was not a good day and it would be more successful not in the School holidays when a lot of people are away. I would also have more stories in my walk and make it longer with longer time to plan.
